Cherokee Language Classes are coming to KC!

"Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. and Deputy Chief Bryan Warner promised to bring you the opportunity to help save our beautiful language, the root of our culture, and now we're living up to that promise. At-large citizens across the United States are forming study groups to connect to our nation and help preserve and perpetuate our language.

In cooperation with the Kansas City Cherokee Community organization, this course will involve up to 30 hours of total course time on April 8, 9, and 10 from 3 to 5 p.m., online, and then two full days of face-to-face Cherokee Nation teacher interaction in the Kansas City metro area (exact location TBD) on April 12 and 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a 6-hour online follow-up on April 15, 16, and 17 from 3-5 p.m.

Your Cherokee Nation is paying for everything: venue, food, and materials. What we need from you is a commitment of time and energy.

Every two weeks, research indicates, a language is lost. Be a part of the historical renaissance of our existence by committing time and energy to attending online courses and one full weekend of in-person study by language instructors of the Cherokee Nation.

If you are up to the task, please fill out this form and commit yourself to helping save your tribe's culture.

By submitting this form, you promise to take the course, which is 100% synchronous, in its entirety, whether virtual or in-person.

This information you submit is required for our reporting and will be treated as confidential. You are not required to be a Cherokee Nation citizen to take this course.

If you are NOT wishing to take this course, please consider joining the Kansas City Cherokee Community organization, voted Best At-Large Cherokee Nation organization for 2024, by simply filling out the form and selecting the appropriate information."
